PLEASE HELP!! Exposure to herpes?
I may have been exposed to herpes can I take antiviral medication so i dont catch it?I had unprotected sex, and oral sex with a guy that I barely know. He said he doesn’t have anything, but I don’t know him, and how would he know if he had herpes or not? Can’t you have it and not know? And then can’t I catch it even when there are no sores present??? I’m freaking out that there’s a chance he could have that and not know, and now I might have it.
I know if you get exposed to HIV you can take anti-viral medication to try and prevent you from getting it, can I do the same thing for herpes? Does anyone know if taking some kind of antiviral soon after exposeure will decrease my chances of catching it?????
Antiviral medication won’t stop you from getting herpes. If you have herpes it suppresses the virus helps to make the person with herpes less able to pass them on and it can even help to prevent out breaks.
He wouldn’t know if he had herpes or not until he had an out break. Herpes can lie dormant for long periods of time and if he does have herpes he could have mild out breaks that could be mistaken for some thing else, also IF he has herpes HE should be the one taking meds.
There is still a very small chance of catching herpes when there are no sores present due to viral shedding, but that only happens a small percentage of the time and you wouldn’t know if he is doing that either.
You taking antiviral medication will do nothing to prevent getting HIV or herpes.
To decrease your exposure to herpes either don’t have sex with people that have herpes or don’t have sex while they have an out break of herpes. Use condoms if your going to have sex with some one who has HIV to further decrease your risk, don’t have sex with people that have HIV.
